I'll have to watch that episode again then. Was it possible that the ubervamp would have broken through given enough time?

Now that you've rememnded me, I seem to remember a telepathic conversation between Willow, Xander and Buffy. Am I correct?

And they allowed the barrrier to fail so that Buffy could fight the ubervamp and dust it in front of everyone?

Yes Vampire in Rug that's exactly what happened. Buffy needed to win the trust of the potentials and show them that she was a capable fighter who was worthy of the reputation she has gained over the years. Which of course ended up with her telling them that no matter what came along that while yes it would be difficult, they would survive. If everyone plays the part given to them

You donīt specify so I say Buffy. She is very strong physically and emotionally. She is someone that, throughout the series has to endure a lot and lose a lot, but those experiences make her stronger.
