I loved this episode.
![]() I loved the introduction of Amanda Waller, Checkmate, and the Suicide Squad. I cannot wait to see this storyline develop. I actually hope that the seeds get planted this season and continue over to next season taking it even further. It would really work for a finale season, if the public is worried about heroes, it really sets up Superman's debut and his status as a leader. Superman would be going public when not only the world needs him, but other superheroes. The JSA were just as great. Loved the cameos from other JSA members. I loved the explored the Hawkman/Hawkgirl relationship a little and set-up Black Canary's mother being a JSA. I was very happy to see Martian Manhunter appear. I love the character, he's one of my personal favorite superheroes. Loved that he got his powers back and we got to see his real form. And the fact they brought up his origin. I hope he appears more throughout the season. I was also glad to see Chloe step-up. My biggest complaint this season was the severe lack of Chloe. So, I hope this marks the start of her doing more. And I like that the JLA has become "her team." If you would have told be nine years ago Chloe would be running the Justice League I would have laughed. Hopefully, the set up a Chloe/Amanda Waller rivalry. Since, they're the heads of two opposing sides. I really hope we begin to see the JLA become more of a family. I hope the Watchtower begins to become more "homey." Hopefully, we see other heroes pop-up and join the league. |

THANK YOU GEOFF JOHNS.
I agree with so much of what you said, this episode was so great. It (the second half, Legends) definitely soared up to the top of my favorite episodes this season. I've heard a little bit about the Suicide Squad and Amanda Waller, but I'm not too familiar with it. The way that it started out makes it seem like it'll be really interesting, so I'm really optimistic about that. The Agent Mercer twist at the end was so awesome too, it actually gave her something that would make me appreciate her more. I haven't really enjoyed her presence on the show since like Turbulence. The whole JSA thing was really really good too. I feel like everybody in the episode grew positively and it was just done so well. Stargirl's scenes with Chloe were really nicely done, but I also liked the scene with Clark/Stargirl at the hospital too. I'm also really glad that MM called Chloe out about being stuck in Watchtower too much, I think it's better if she hears it from someone other than Clark or Oliver. Quote:

This is prolly no big deal but I just thought it was interesting they didn't give the episode a one-word title, like they've always done.

It was the CW that gave us this rather craptacular two word title for the sake of promotion. I guess "Absolute Justice" looked better than "Society/Legends" when they put it on posters to advertise the "two-hour movie event." But, yeah, the shooting names for each episode were "Society" (the first hour, so 9.11) and "Legends" (the second hour, 9.12). I like the two separate names way better but I guess "Absolute Justice" meshed well with the cheese factor in these two episodes. Just kidding! Though I did find some aspects a tad too...comic-book taste and bordering on childrens' TV show material (specifically all of the costumes). But the main cast and and John Jones and Amanda Waller made the episodes spectacular, for me. And the special effects were pretty darn awesome! The teaser with Chloe in the dumpster while the giant battle goes on outside was really well done!

Wow this has taken me awhile to post, but I just wanted to put my head together and watch it a second time.
I want to start by saying how happy I was to see them stay so true to the comic. Mostly thanks to Geoff Johns. He really captured these characters and added them to the Smallville world pretty smoothly. Though, I have to admit... I find it weird that people forgot about the JSA. It seems like there would be SOMETHING more then a few film reels. The story itself felt very Watchman, which I liked. It let us see a lot of great cameos. The opening teaser with Chloe was just an amazing way to start an episode. It had so much in it, and the special effects were just at the top of their game this episode. I thought the JSA was perfectly done. I really liked the costumes and hope that if they bring back some of the other JLA characters they revamp their costumes in a similar fashion. I was surprised how much depth they put into Hawkman. Although I was sad Hawkgirl was killed, I think was a great move in the end. It made sense to make Carter so much jaded. Doctor Fate was cool and different then what we've seen in the comics. I was surprised they killed him off, but it gave us a sweet scene with John Jones! Stargirl I was just happy to see, I love her in the comics and I think it was nice to have her as a fresh breathe of air for the JSA. I hope we see her and Hawkman again, and hopefully they can grow closer and bring the team together. Icicle was... well... I thought the makeup was pretty sweet. And the actor was pretty cool, he had a great crazy-sense to him and I loved it! But as an actual nemesis was... I dunno. It seemed like they could have taken him on... But oh well, in the end I think he worked. Much cooler then Tess' Injustice League we got last season. It makes me excited to see the Suicide Squad and what the show will do with them. Amanda Waller rocked! So glad to have her on the show, and I think she will be what Lionel never could be. An epic enemy. And now that Tess is part of this I am even more excited. Checkmate will hopefully rock. All together this was a great event, and I think it was a treat for fans of Smallville and the comics. Well I wish they had brought in a few more characters and made more of an illusion to JSA Black Canary and JLA Black Canary. The ending was so sweet, with Oliver, John (so happy he has his powers back! and to see his alien face was AMAZING!) and Chloe went to dinner. I hope this team grows as a real team.

I admit I am not familiar with Amanda Waller/Suicide Squad and the comic book heroes that were mentioned in this episode. Regardless, I enjoyed it. Maybe its just me but did Michael Shank's voice seem a bit too rough?
Loved seeing him! ![]()

Yeah it did seem like he was pulling a Christian Bale/Batman type thing, but I think it worked for the most part. Amanda Waller = Amazing. I would recommend you checking out some of the Justice League Unlimited cartoons (mainly season 2) to get a better idea of her character.
