Rewatching the West Wing (on S1) and its amazing how much of a different time things were in 99.
President Bartlett is the opposite of Trump to put it politely.
Also pre 9/11/Afghanistan and then Iraq the argument about just missile and strike and whether to launch it or not is certainly from a more innocent age.
While without the fantasy setting (leaving aside the heroic Bartlett who is fantastical in this age) the writing is very similar to BtVS. You got the zippy dialogue and likable characters and situations they get themselves into.
Though I do love Martin Sheen as Bartlett he is a real stand out as is John Spencer as Leo his friend and Chief of Staff. Its always a pleasure to watch them on screen.
One down side is the character Mandy Hampton I'm not sure if she was written to be an entitled Karen or (for the time) simply meant to be funny and charming and is now dated but God I can't stand her and I'm only 4 episodes in
