I mean, I don’t say this often but MikeB is right. Being asked to star in a Super Bowl commercial is a really big deal and great for her acting career. Good on her.

I know a lot of you aren’t from the US (neither am I) but do people really not know about Super Bowl commercials? They’re huge. Companies spend a sh*t load of money on them and they’re meant to be memorable and OTT. And they definitely don’t have to have anything to do with actual football

Genuinely haven't ever heard of it vampmogs. Still, Olay is a weird product placement in the context of the actual ad, though I can see that the ad's drama meets what you're saying regardless of not being football relevant.

Is this the reals reason? Someone made a typo and they have been sweeping it under the rug for decades?
Oh please let that be true, that'd be hilarious. It used to be Oil of Ulay in the UK until the late 90s. So they definitely get the idea of unifying the brand, they just seem to have not bothered to do it fully.

A conversation that I have every year.

Person: What are your Super Bowl plans?

Me: Not watching. I hate football.

Person: Aw, it doesn’t have to be about the football. It’s about the food and the commercials.

Me: The invention of the DVR and streaming services evolved us past commercials. I’m not going backwards. If a commercial goes viral, I’ll see it on Youtube.

Why would they call it Olay in the US and Olaz in Germany? Just think of all the extra costs for extra logo`s and so on. And what about corporate identity? Also, Olay actually sounds even nicer.

It's Olaz here too, even though we use a QWERTY keyboard. (In fact, I never realised German keyboards were different until I bought a laptop via Amazon.de OOPS! I had to buy keyboard stickers to be able to work with it :-)

On the other hand, to the rest of the world Germany and The Netherlands are the same, so maybe your husband's theory still explains it...

Heh, you know everything about the recent Gilette commercial, too? Despite not really wanting to know anything about it?

I don't really understand this Super Bowl commercial with SMG, but if it goes along with money and prestige, without any harm being done, I say good for her.

I’ve seen a Super Bowl ad featuring a NASCAR star promoting GoDaddy in a porn parody. They cannot shock me.

Ha, this is why I like my “Advertising is important art” to be safely contained on Mad Men. I resent corporations playing a role in forming positive masculinity by way of selling products. But I resent having to agree with the Red Pill/MRA crowd for a nanosecond that they don’t need learnin’ on how to be a better man. Because they do. Annoying from all angles.

Topic: Agree that this is prestigious for SMG and Yay SMG.

All said regarding writers, producers, actors, directors, viewers, readers, etc. are what I remember, my opinions, etc.

                  * The commercial that aired during the Super Bowl was a little different and is one of best Super Bowl commercials in 2019 A.D. It got excellent placement--very early in The Big Game and Olay sponsored the early segment the commercial was placed in.
