Were there any "happily ever after" couples in the Whedonverse? I am holding on to hope that FitzSimmons might be the first.

That's in the comics right? Did a Whedon really write them? Seems unlikely with their track record

Riley and Sam. And that relationship stayed through the comic seasons too.

Whedon was involved at a minimum with every writers' summit that worked out the direction/arcs for each season. He didn't write much specifically after S8, an issue in S9 as I recall and he was more heavily involved in S12, providing specific text to include and reading all the drafts too according to Gage. So yes, as much as his reduced involvement can't be denied, it is often over emphasised to wish to discredit them it seems to me. He may have been less involved/invested but he never chose to stop being there for the overall direction/planning and put time in to attend for that and it was said they still had to run any larger changes/new ideas by him during the seasons too.

Thinking about Kathy Newman in the elimination game. She's quite popular and I wonder if she'd been allowed to just live her life, would she have had an ordinary human life, or did she need to steal people's souls to live? Did she only steal Buffy's soul because Buffy was the slayer?

Poor Ampata too, she could have had a life if it weren't for the life sucking. Was every kiss so she could steal a life-force, or could she kiss normally?

It didn't seem to me that Kathy needed to suck Buffy's soul
            because she was the Slayer—

Kathy had no idea about that, nor did she need to soul to live:

She needed it to disguise herself from her father and other
male elders: they knew that she had escaped from her
dimension to attend college, had come to capture her. The
only way that they would be able to identify her, given the
mask she had applied to her face and body, would be by her
lack of a soul, a lack that they could sense—

Kathy thus sought to suck out Buffy's soul, appropriate
it, so that her male elders would mistake Buffy for her,
take Buffy back to the home dimension, leave Kathy there
to enjoy college (and endless rounds of Celine Dion)
            in relative peace...

She probably would have done the same to any other
woman with whom she had happened to be paired...

That said, you do raise an interesting point:

On the one hand, I do find her incredibly annoying: the
labeled food, the lists, the endless Celine Dion, the lack
of respect for Buffy's personal space...

On the other hand, I put part of this down to the awkwardness
of newly acquired humanity, sudden freedom and the fear it brings...

And the overwhelming sense of patriarchal control under which
she must have suffered for over a thousand years, control so great
she was driven to the extremes of Living Conditions...

Without doubt, a certain pathos tugs at me—

After all, without the soul-sucking, she just would have been
annoying, not evil—and I have known far lower souled people,
of far meaner intent, than anything Kathy shows us beyond
what is, in the end, an attempt at maintaining her freedom—
            not a defensible attempt, but...

Ampata was a little different, as she did need the breath of
others to live: without a constant supply, she would wither
down to her mummified self. And she knew it.

            That said...

Yes, a certain pathos, a certain sympathy—

But I also remember Buffy's statement to Billy Fordham when
I remember the way Ampata was willing to kill Willow without the
            least compunction:

"You may not have a good choice, but you have a choice—"

Part of the power of the parallel the episode draws between
Ampata and Buffy is that we know what choice Buffy would
            have made, would always make...

This is an article about a panel that included JW, JM, MT, AH, MN and more and took place between season 6 and season 7.

Thanks for posting flow, it's really interesting stuff. Everyone sounds exactly like I'd expect.

Nick was particularly lively, cracking jokes and at times coming on so strong that Michelle teased, "he hasn't had his medication today."

Nick Brendon even sounds high, though no one seems to mention his problems, so maybe they weren't well known at the time and the cast are 'happy' to cover for him.

In fact, of all the cast members, Michelle was the most surprising to me. She comes across as poised, adult, and really quite lovely. She also has a certain ineffable star quality about her -- I wouldn't be at all surprised if Joss and Marti are grooming her for Dawn the Vampire Slayer, in the event that UPN wants an 8th season and Sarah's moving on to other things.

Interesting to see what fans at the time were thinking about post- season 7. I'd have been happy with a Dawn the Vampire Slayer show too.

Joss said that Buffy will not continue her job at Doublemeat Palace because they had actually lost advertisers over that -- the only issue, he claims, that they have ever lost advertisers over. Apparently it's not kosher to make fun of fast food in the good old USA

I'm not sure I've heard this before, but it is interesting that the show could show everything it did, yet it was the horror of fast food that lost them advertisers

Michelle commented that she hoped she wouldn’t keep getting hate mail about her character.

This is really sad, that a young actor would get hate mail simply for portraying a certain character, and for a character as great as Dawn. Michelle must be very strong minded to not let that hate get her down, and it must have had an impact or she wouldn't have bought it up here.

It must have been fantastic to get that close to Joss and the cast when the show was airing.

I was wondering about when Spike and Giles met for the first time on the show. I remember Spike being at the mansion when Angel tortured Giles but is this really the first time they saw each other? Does anyone know?
